Description
An operator of a water or wastewater treatment plant should routinely evaluate the efficiency of the individual process units and of the plant. Basic mathematical concepts are essential for the operator to maintain efficient plant operation and compliance with environmental approvals and regulations.
The objective of this manual is to help the operator determine process efficiency through the use of mathematical calculations rather than “trial and error” methods. This manual does not dwell on mathematics in general, but is meant to guide an operator by providing examples of typical “in-plant” calculations.
The guide provides examples and solutions to guide an operator through a calculation. Problems for additional practice are also included, and answers to these are provided at the end of the manual.
